Sandy: We saw the David Hockney exhibit yesterday which opened at the de Young Museum at end of October. He is quite prolific. In this exhibit there were at least eight portraits painted this year up until September, a month before the de Young exhibit. Hockney believes that Old Master artists started using the camera lucida or camera obscura to do more accurate portraits. I couldn’t confirm if Hockney was left handed. In some self portraits he is painting with his right hand, others with his left. It’s possible that the left-handed portraits are mirror images. Hockney is not afraid of technology; at 76 years old, he is experimenting with painting on the iPad and printing with ink jet printers.
Sandy’s year long journey – going from being a right-hander to left-hander, and Kelly’s parallel trip as a left-hander doing things as a right-hander.
