Sandy: In tests, cats use their left paw more if the target is moving versus if the target is stationary. In a study of 109 cats, male cats were 50% right pawed, 40% left pawed, 10% ambidextrous while females were 54% right pawed, 34% left pawed, 12% ambidextrous.
We used to have a beautifully, stunning, sable-colored Burmese cat who we named Alexis (unlike the mangy one in the drawing). If I was standing and she were in front of me, I would motion for her to jump up to my chest. She could gracefully jump from a seated position and I would catch her just as her paws gently touched my shoulders. I never observed which paw she preferred.
