Day 217 : espresso

217espresso

Sandy: Mmmmmmmm! I made the best-ever mocha this morning with goat milk. I love my old school, Italian-made Riviera espresso machine. It is about 30 years old. Last year I had it tuned up – some parts needed replacing (not a surprise) – at the only place in the Bay Area who thoroughly knows the ins and outs of these spring piston lever machines, Thomas Cara Ltd. It is a bi-handed machine. I can insert the coffee basket and pull the lever down with my left (or right) hand but the right hand must turn the steamer knob. It is so close to the water reservoir which gets so hot it will practically burn the skin when touched (bad design).

Sandy’s year long journey – going from being a right-hander to left-hander, and Kelly’s parallel trip as a left-hander doing things as a right-hander.
