Day 153 : Q

Sandy: I love the letter Q. It seems like most font designers take liberty with the tail – exaggerating the stroke, making it vertical or horizontal, more playful or very elegant. Maybe I like it because a letter O is so beautiful and simple in its symmetry that incorporating a tail that could make it asymmetrical breaks conventionality when creating a Q.

I wanted to render each Q freehand but traced them so they would be as close to the original font as possible. I should have used a light box in order to see the letters better because it took a long time plus the pencil was a little shaky. Occasionally I used my right hand to fill in the outlines.

Sandy’s year long journey – going from being a right-hander to left-hander, and Kelly’s parallel trip as a left-hander doing things as a right-hander.
