Neck ties seem like they can be done with either hand and look just as good, or bad. A full/double windsor knot will always look symmetrical as long as you do a good job whereas a half/single windsor knot (drawing on the right) takes a little extra tugging so it doesn’t look askew.
Sandy: Several times I tied full windsor knots alternating with my left and right hands, and alternating with the short end on the right and the left. To me it was like tying shoes. It doesn’t matter which hand ties and which hand holds, it matters that it is done neatly. Tying ties are fun. For the first Black and White Ball I attended with my husband in San Francisco, we both wore tuxedos. It was fun to experience the fitting process, tying a bow tie and donning a cummerbund. Must say I felt a little stuffy as opposed to the following year when I felt more elegant in a gown .
Sandy’s year long journey – going from being a right-hander to left-hander, and Kelly’s parallel trip as a left-hander doing things as a right-hander.
